Something for Sunday

If it’s not one thing, it’s another.*

I was minding my own business yesterday, up in my scrapbook room working on the ski pages. Butch came up to tell me that the guys working out back (part of our garage renovation--it was more than just the garage) when they told Butch that they had severed the pool line and water is gushing out. There’s no way to shut it off because the cut is between the pool and the shut-off valve. That means our pool is now going to drain. In addition, that means another repair to the water line which is underground. Now they are going to have to tear up the yard to get to it. I’m pretty sure that’s going to require the work of someone else—maybe our buddy the plumber! Not to mention the water expense of having to refill the pool.

I said to Butch, “Well thanks for sharing that bit of misery!” To which he quipped, “Misery loves company!” And then went on to say, “I’m about done with that “f****n’” pool. (I can count on one hand how many times he’s used that word in 50 years. Okay, maybe two hands.) I said it wasn’t exactly the pool’s fault! Which is surprising because water problems around here are ALWAYS the pool’s fault.

If it’s not one thing it’s another. Truer words were never spoken!

*Update, after I wrote this, our pool guy came out. Remember our last guy didn’t work on weekends, nor answer phone calls, texts or emails. Well, we have to give it to this guy—and this is why we’re going to love him forever—he came out right away—despite just getting home last night from his honeymoon! I’m pretty sure the wife is not thrilled! Oh, and more good news, there will be no digging up the yard. Everything can be fixed in the pool shed—which is being re-done as part of the renovation anyway. A little extra work, but not nearly as bad as we thought!

  1. Oh thank goodness it is not as disruptive as you initially thought with your 'worst case scenario'! I can't begin to imagine how much water it takes to fill up a pool - I hope your water rate charges aren't as high as they are over here!
