Five Things Thursday

We're home! The trip was fabulous and went by way too fast! We had 10 days in France and it wasn't nearly enough!

We've decided that river cruises are now our favorite way to travel. We've done two so far---this one on the Seine and one on the Danube right before the lockdown in 2019. Butch and I have another planned for the Nile in January of 2022. It's just such a great way to get an overview of many places.

On to the five things.

1. One of our favorite things to do is to sit on top of the boat while we're sailing and just watch all of the gorgeous scenery. We had the most perfect weather. Butch got this picture:
Beautiful homes, swans floating on the Seine and an old man fishing. I'm seriously thinking of having this one printed on canvas and framed too!

2. I thought this was an interesting ice bucket.
Nicky in the background. We had a lot of wine---lunch, happy hours, dinners and any time in between! I had a lot of champagne too. In fact, since there were so few people on the cruise, the bartenders knew us and our orders. As we walked in they would say, "the usual?" Gotta' love that!

3. As you entered the dining room, there was this sign along with "readers" that you could borrow.

What a great idea! I've never seen that before.

4. Notice the green boxes?
They are 400 years old. Now maybe not these exact boxes--I don't know if wood can last that long. Or maybe it's petrified. Anyway, they were originally for book sellers. The vendors are still called that, but what they sell are souvenirs. I don't think there are any books for sale at all. These boxes line the walls next to the Seine on both sides. We learned the story as we took a sightseeing cruise.

5. This is exactly how we feel about traveling:
You wouldn't believe ALL the trips we've already got planned for the coming year. Trying to do has many as we can. There are so many places we still want to see.

What about you? Any trips in your future?

  1. So pleased you enjoyed your trip to France, and have these atmospheric photos to share with us. I remember those green boxes from my previous visits - they're owned by the 'bouquinistes' who sell (or at least used to sell) old and antiquarian books. I once found a handwritten accounts book from a lady in the eighteenth century detailing all the household purchases. I'd be sad if they no longer did this ... Glad you're making the most of adventuring!
