Steph's Birthday & Thanksgiving

Well, it's December 1st! Where is the time going? It's amazing how far behind I get when I skip blogging for a couple days! This goes all the way back to Steph's birthday on November 19th.

She wanted to do something fun that we'd never done before. She rented the "cabin" on the top of the Bobbie Hotel. Now, first off, there is so much new downtown that we had never heard of it. Despite the fact that Mindy lives down there and Stephanie lives pretty close too, we hardly ever go down. Just about every hotel has some sort of rooftop entertainment. Nashville is a pretty city to look on. The streets are mostly crowded with tourists, bachelorette parties (did you know that Nashville is the bachelorette capitol of the the US?) and numerous party barges and pedal taverns. So, it's no wonder we didn't know anything about the Bobbie Hotel.

We had the cabin from 5-6:30. When we arrived, we had a drink around the fire pit.
This was posted on the elevator. They are working hard to keep everyone socially distanced.
We were the only ones using the fire pits.
After a bit, we went in to our cabin for dinner and birthday cake.

Afterwards, we posed for a quick picture before heading back out to the fire.

Oliver and Morgan. Besides the cabin, they have all these little igloos that you can rent too.

Having the "batman building" as a background for our picture was fun. It was a beautiful night--weather wise. When it was over, the "kids" masked and wandered around downtown. Butch and I went home. Doing the honky tonks isn't exactly our style--especially during this time. Okay, even in the best of times, we're more daytime honky tonkers!
On the way out, I snapped this picture. If you look real close you can see pedals. You can sit and pedal and never leave the bar!

It was a fun change of pace. Really, if it wasn't for Steph's birthday, we probably would never had done something like this. As it is, we do whatever the girls ask us to do. We don't want to miss a thing either!

Our Thanksgiving was pretty small--as it was meant to be this year. There were just the 4 of us--Butch and I, Stephanie and Nicky. We started our holiday with dinner in the private 1901 adult dining room at Richland. We had the entire place to ourselves.

After a delicious dinner, we came back to the house where we watched the movie "Holidate." It was stupid--don't waste your time. The worst part of that is that the guys watched it too. That was bad because Butch never watches movies and this one just proved why! We had warm brownies with peppermint ice cream for dessert. They spent the night.

On Thanksgiving morning, we started the day with bloody Mary's while watching the Macy's Day Parade. That's a family tradition that we've carried on just about all of our married life. Afterwards, we had a brunch rather than the traditional turkey dinner. I just didn't want to go to all that work for 4 people. Plus, it would have been way too much food. It's hard to cook small on Thanksgiving.
We had eggs Benedict quiche, hash brown casserole, blueberry congealed salad (jello salad for us midwesterners) and 7-Up biscuits. The food was delicious. I loved the ease of it all. Everybody else missed the turkey dinner--but not me--we'll do it for Christmas. Butch said he missed our football pool too. This is our first Thanksgiving where the whole gang wasn't together. Oh, well, next year will/should look different.
Setting the table is still my favorite thing to do. I didn't get out all the decorations this year. But I still layered the tablecloths. I love doing that. In fact, I loaned Morgan all kinds of things for her table. Sandy gave me those turkey paper plates last year--so cute. I've had these pumpkin plates for several years now--I think I got them at Pier One (I miss Pier One already--they've gone out of business here)---or maybe Pottery Barn--I can't really remember. With just 4 of us, it was easy to put the food on the table.

We're just starting to figure out Christmas. We think we have a pretty good plan, but it might change. We'll see. Just trying to stay safe!
