Growing up, it was no doubt, simpler times. The times of country roads, fishing, bike riding, hanging with your friends, catching lightning bugs, playing baseball, skipping rocks, wading in the creek and swimming in the lake. Kind of sounds like Mayberry---right??
Well, Butch and I went there---or rather---Mount Airy---the home of Andy Griffin. We left a day early for our family vacation to make the stop. We had so much fun.
This is the simple, ordinary house that Andy grew up in. It's now a bed and breakfast that you can rent!Andy had lunch here while going to school.
The prices have gone up since Andy's time, but still pretty darn cheap! The restaurant was a bit run down---no frills sort of place.
Nothing fancy and no plates!
We shared the famous pork chop sandwich and cheeseburger. Considering the pork chop is the state sandwich of North Carolina, we were disappointed. With so many odd things on the sandwich---Cole slaw, chili, mustard and onions---we thought it would have much more flavor. The food was average at best. We stood in the line outside for about a half hour. It was only worth it to say we'd gone there.
Main Street has capitalized on the whole Mayberry theme. Of course, Andy developed the show and based it on his home town.
You can take a tour in one of these old police cruisers. We did our own thing, but saw them around town.
We had a really great day. I'm so glad that Butch finds such fun things for us to visit on our trips. It's like taking a step back in time to this simpler days and we love it!
That looks like a great Trip Down Memory Lane ... I especially like that old and slightly rusty truck! Yes, simpler living is very refreshing, isn't it.
