Travel Tuesday

Today is about traveling, but not about us. Rather, it's the turkeys! They are back!
They were here for several years--even nesting in the trees in our side garden. For whatever reason, they were not here last year. That seems odd--but I'm glad to see them back. I know that for some people, they are very destructive. For us, they just make a pass through--usually twice a day--eating along the way. You can almost set your watch, their pattern is so predictable. But, this year, there are only two of them. Maybe they have babies that will soon be joining them.

I'll keep you posted.

Me on Monday

7 weeks ago, I made the decision to "break up" with my hair stylist after a couple years. There were several reasons:

1. I was tired of being stressed when I was there--not knowing how my hair was going to turn out--color or cut--sometimes too dark, sometimes too short.

2. When she cut my hair, she always left really long pieces that would hang in my face. I would blow it so that she would see it. That made me question her eyesight.

3. The last time I went to her, while I was under the dryer, she approached me with a spray bottle of water and a towel. She started spraying my hair and trying to wipe the color out. What?? I made the decision then and there that it was over.

4. When she finishes my hair--and this is every time, as soon as I get in the car, I have to brush, spray and try to arrange it myself. I never liked how she fixed it.

5. But the biggest reason I wanted to leave was that she would never take me before 10:30 a.m.

Now everyone knows that I am a morning person. A very early morning person!!
10:30 is the middle of my day. I can't meet a friend for lunch or a movie. It just wrecks my day.

Then on top of all this, later in the day--as I was telling Butch that I was going to find someone else, she started sending me pictures of beautiful, older women and stars with awesome hair styles--suggesting I let her try one of those for me. That's when I knew it was definitely over. She doesn't know my hair at all! My hair is very fine. There is no way I will ever have lush, full, thick hair like those women. Believe me, I've tried! It's not gonna' happen!

With all of these reasons, I was just fed up. I decided I was going to find someone else. I did. I went to Elements Salon--it's a chain--at least here in Nashville.

Meet Farhiya (far-hee-a). She's a cute, little thing--28 yrs. old.
She has done the best color I've had in my whole 74 years!! I love it. And best of all, she can take me at 8 a.m!! Yay! Another like-minded early morning person! Oh, and another thing--I liked how she fixed it!

Still, I have a few problems with her:

1. I can't get my hair to look like she did. Some people just have a knack.

2. Rather than a regular mirror that you see yourself from the chest up, she has a full length one--not a pleasant sight. Okay, that's a salon problem--not hers.

3. She's pretty pricey. Apparently after talking to my girls, she's (or I should say the salon) is in line with most places around town. But, there's also something to be said for really liking what you get AND, my time is worth something.

To have an early appointment, that's definitely worth paying more! So, I will. At least as long as I like what she does. I recognize that I am still in the honeymoon phase with her.

Stay tuned as we see how it unfolds...

Something for Sunday

I saw this on Facebook recently. It doesn't look like a tombstone, but the sentiment would be good for mine!

Five Things Thursday

Today I thought I would share some spring tables. The bunnies remind me of the ones hopping around our yard--AND we have babies! They are so cute. Some are living under the pond. The only problem is that the rabbits eat my flowers. We haven't gotten our pots for the summer yet, but it won't be long. I don't look forward to the destruction.

Travel Tuesday

A few weeks ago on our way back from St. Louis, we stopped here so that Butch could find a geo-cache. This roadside billboard is of George Harrison who visited here once! It's a tiny city--Benton, Illinois.
Its claim to fame is that George Harrison's sister, Louise lived here in the 1960's. He visited her once in 1963 prior to The Beatles first trip to America.  The home she lived in later became known as a Hard Day's Night Museum and Bed and Breakfast.

Something for Sunday

I do not recall where I heard about this spot and stain remover--either a commercial or on Facebook. Anyway, I bought it on Amazon and it really works!!

I had spilled tea on one of my favorite tops. I tried washing it out as I was wearing it, but, of course, that didn't work. I used Spray n' Wash on it and that didn't work. Then my order of Stingray arrived and I tried it. It was amazing how well it worked. Even after the top was washed and dried--it worked!

I also used it on several carpet stains--and it worked!

It's just nice to have something in your back pocket that you know you can rely on.

Scrapbook Saturday

This is my March layout for my "Memories by the Month" album.

I used my Cricut to cut the title for this page.

I did some machine sewing on the hearts and to hold down the ruffles.

I cut the bats for the title and then just used stickers.

I cut this title on the Cricut and used glitter glue for the snow.

Five Things Thursday

This week, I thought I would share some furniture re-dos. Every one of them are beautiful! What a great way to take some outdated pieces and make them look fresh and new.

This one is my favorite for really making this china hutch into something completely different. However, I do not like the tile backsplash. If I were doing it, I would have put shiplap there. And, I'm not crazy about the butcher block counter or the sink. The piece looks more formal to me. I would have added a piece of granite for the counter top and a fancier faucet. I would turn it into a bar.

What I Buy Wednesday

So. We're going down to the beach in two weeks. We need a new rug for the porch. Butch and I talked about checking out Home Depot, Walmart and Lowes. Then Butch reminded me of Wayfair. This is the one I picked out. I love it and can't wait to get it. The rug we have needed to be replaced in the fall, but we decided that we might as well wait until spring rather than have the wear and tear of a new one through the winter. In fact, ALL of the rugs we have at the beach came from Wayfair.
They are the best place to go for home decor. They have everything. In fact, I bought both of the huge bathroom vanities from them when we remodeled our upstairs a few years ago.

I bought this rug on Monday night and it's being delivered today! Plus, free shipping! You can't beat that!

I have used Wayfair for years. Their return policy is so easy--although I haven't had to return much. We've received a couple things through the years that were broken. All we had to do was send a picture and they replaced it.

I like this rug so much, that I'm thinking I might use it inside and moving another one outside. We'll see when we get down there.

Travel Tuesday

This past weekend, we went to the wedding of my friend, Connie's granddaughter. Everything about it was perfect! Even the weather cooperated!
The bride and groom: Nick and Analise.

The wedding party. The venue was at an old country club in Knoxville--Holston Hills (that's where the travel part comes in). It had a lot of old charm and character.

This is Connie's younger daughter and her family: Charlie, Grace, Malinda and Drew. The bridesmaid's dresses were a lovely shade of blue. The dresses were simple, yet beautiful.
Connie had told me ahead of time that I needed to pay attention to the flowers. Well, that was easy since I love flowers! I told her that I didn't know they were buying the whole shop! There were flowers everywhere--including 2 huge wreaths on the entrance doors to the club.
Although you cannot see her face, this is Amanda--Analise's mom. I was sort of at the mercy of the pictures I was able to pull off of Facebook. Amanda's dress was gorgeous too.
Analise with her brother, Merrit.
Each row had more beautiful flowers.
And then these are the centerpieces. Connie encouraged us to take them home, but since we were traveling we couldn't really do it. I loved the shabby chic tablecloths too. Every detail was perfect!

Analise did another thing that I think is so classy! She wrote notes to all of her guests--thanking them for coming. She mentioned a personal experience in each one. Since our families are such good friends, she grew up with us. I'm so impressed by the time it had to take to do all of these notes.

Another family friend, Paige (daughter of my friend, Nancy) did the same thing a few years ago. I had never heard of this but love it so much. Writing is becoming a lost art.

It was a fun weekend. Since we gained an hour on the return drive and with a stop at Cracker Barrel for breakfast, we were still home by 9 a.m. Can't wait to see Connie this week to see how everything went after we left.
