What I Buy Wednesdays

Besides a few Christmas gifts, I only bought one thing this week.
I bought this canvas---errr, rather ordered it. I have been eyeing it for awhile. I have never done anything for fall, but this is so stunningly beautiful. My sister-in-law, Chris, goes all out decorating for fall. I thought of her right away and sent her a picture of this. She wanted it. That's all it took for me to get on board. I have visions of us stitching it together. It comes with all the fibers and a stitch guide. It will be a fun project to work on while Butch and Walter fish and golf.

While I'm talking about stitching, I thought I'd show what I've been working on now. Actually, it's a workshop I attended last fall. I couldn't allow myself to finish it until I finished another project I had started. I'm very disciplined like that---which is why I finish my pieces. There's too much money invested, not to!
It's a four panel piece that will make a stand up similar to a nesting egg---about 10" tall.
I was intimidated by this. I had never worked with it before. It's like one of those Chinese handcuffs that you put your fingers in. It's all stretchy.
I had to make a really big hole to get it through. Then you flatten it and shape it---tacking it down as you go. It wasn't hard, just a little time consuming.
Here it is finished.
All I have left now is the red on the robe which is on all four panels. It's a time consuming stitch because you have to pull the threads apart, then use your fingers to smooth them and lay each stitch individually. What you see here took me about 4 evenings. I figure I'll finish it in another couple weeks. I've already missed the deadline for Christmas, so it will be ready for next year.

That's it for me this week. Heading to the beach today. We're going to be doing some general maintenance at both condos. I'll be shopping too, so might have something to report next week.

  2. That is amazingly detailed. I look forward to seeing it all completed next year!

That fall tapestry is gorgeous, when we moved I found all my embroidery stuff (knew it was in a box....) and have thought about restarting it. Now that I've got a regular commute, but then I wouldn't read... decisions decisions!
