I cannot believe there were no carts! There has to be at least 100 or more--usually! It started in the parking lot. Not a single place to park. I waited while someone loaded her groceries. She took her sweet slow time to put her cart in the corral. Little did I know I would need that cart! Then she fixed her hair and checked her phone--all the time knowing that I was waiting for her spot. Rude. Just plain rude!
Then I get in the store to NO carts. Not one. The one you see here is mine--offered to me by a man who happened to be rolling it in when I went our to track one down.
Once I got in the store, I was ill-prepared for all of the empty shelves. Here are just a few.
There was definitely a run on onions. What seems to be left are the things that no one knows what they are and how to prepare them. At least I didn't know what they were.

Then I came across this:
I have no idea what was in this bin, but I needed it. There were more than one of these on other aisles too.

I don't know what was in this bin.
On the other side, there wasn't a single banana left. Even the spotty, bruised ones were gone.

I didn't take pictures of the many other things that were gone. Few eggs were left. Same goes for lunch meat. The store was stocking as fast as they could, but I heard more than one time that everything was out--in particular categories.
There were several things on my list that I was unable to get. But, I guess that was a good thing because my $50 food budget for this week is just about gone--only $8 left. And I have to get groceries for a big family dinner (of us) on Sunday night. I might be spending next week's budget this week. That should be okay since Butch leaves for Panama next week which means I won't be cooking!
The food budget is tight for sure, but I'm hanging in there!
I guess that's the only positive thing to come out of it, if the stock isn't there you can't spend money on it! Wow. That reminds me of the 'covid' days when you couldn't buy any of the essentials because people had panic bought. I'm guessing you are expecting a long period of bad weather! Do people use grocery delivery services much over there?
ReplyDeleteI think it's mostly the younger people who use the delivery. I have a friend who recently bought a house with her daughter. I'm not sure if they use the delivery service or just the "order ahead" and just pick it up. She swears by it--saying it's reduced her grocery bill because there is no impulse buying. I think I would rather pick out my own meat and vegetables.
