Travel Tuesday

Last week, we went down to visit with Sandy and family. Actually, it was pretty appropriate. That was the last trip we took before the quarantine and now it's the first one after.

We stopped in Chattanooga to do some geo-caching along the way.
There are so many things you find when you are roaming around the countryside. I love little old churches and graveyards.
This was my favorite surprise on this trip. It's the grave of "Old Isham" the mount of General Cheatham. It was just along the old country road. Someone is taking care of it.
A little further down the same road was this old country store. Maybe they'll restore it.
This was in downtown Chattanooga. Prior to this, Coca Cola was only a fountain drink. In 1899, they started bottling it here. Butch knew, through business, Tommy Lupton, the grandson of one of the founders.
We had to go out to the center of this old bridge that is now for pedestrians. We needed a clue from a marker there to complete the cache. Let me just say it was HOT and humid! So darn hot! There was only this little strip of shade. That's where I walked. After that, I sat in the car while Butch went on for another mile and a half to finish. I've always said that I can take the heat as long as I can be in the shade. That is still the truth, but I do sweat like you wouldn't believe! I didn't want to get to Sandy and be all gross!
When we got to Sandy's, this birthday bouquet from Mitchell was on the counter. Did I mention that it was Sandy's birthday? This is one of the most unusual arrangements, I've seen. I don't think I've every seen one that was lavender and white. So pretty!

It was so nice to get away for a couple of days. I can't think of a better place to visit than Sandy's. We're so thankful that they are so close now---only 3 1/2 hours away. That really makes it nice.

  1. Oh my goodness, you can tell that I come from the UK as my first thought was ONLY 3 1/2 hours away? That is 'so close'?! Half an hour is what I consider close! Our kids both went to university in a city that was 3 hours away and that seemed so far to go.
How nice to learn a little more about Chattanooga other than the song with that name in it. And what beautiful flowers, don't those colours look pretty and fresh together?
