Seriously??

Seen on my Walks

Well, the other day, I went out a little after 5 a.m. It was still dark. If it hadn't been, I would have missed this:

I got to see the moon, then dawn. I didn't exactly see a sunrise because of all the trees. One thing I love about going out that early is that it's so cool---well, at least not so humid. And I have a good half hour to myself before all the other neighborhood walkers come out.

Here are some things I've seen lately.

Is this a snake hole? I don't know what would live in there. Then I got to thinking, where do snakes live? I didn't wait around to see if anything came out.

 This is the flower I have that drapes over our driveway wall. I'm pretty sure it's the same as this one I've seen in the neighborhood.

I need to get a side view of my flowers. I love this color so much.

This reminds me of this post from 2008 about the destruction of our mailbox. I cannot believe it's been 12 years since that happened. I would have said about 5 years ago! Time is flying by. Anyway, I wonder if the mailman is delivering to them.

Some kitty is missing her food. I'm pretty sure the same raccoon that's terrorizing our fish was up to no good here. He must have been scared off before he was able to drag dinner home for his family.

On the morning I went out in the dark, I was able to witness the very first of my daily blooms. This is some sort of perennial hibiscus. The blooms only last a single day, but it blooms pretty profusely. I love the purple foliage too.

Well, that's about all of the interesting things I've seen this past week. While walking, I've listened to several podcasts. Murder in Hollywoodland is a true story from the 1920's. Also,  I'm loving Dax Shepherd's Armchair Expert. I've listened to his interviews with Melissa McCarthy, Rob Lowe and this week, John Legend. Dax is hilarious and does a really good job with the interviews.

Our Route 66 challenge is going well. We're way ahead of schedule. I'm doing my part. I've exceeded my personal walking goal every week---which is now the new goal! It's keeping me committed. Don't want to let the team down!

At the Beach

Last Tuesday, Stephanie went down to Santa Rosa Beach, FL. She's working from home and decided that working from home at the beach would be a nice change of scenery. She sent me a few pictures:

 She walked on the beach in the morning with her coffee.

And relaxed in the evening with a glass of wine.

Nicky, Sandy, Greg, Mindy and Justin arrived on Friday. They had a great time.

 The guys are all cooks, so they did most of that. They grilled blackened grouper and scallops. You can't beat fresh seafood at the beach! Always my favorite.

While they were cooking, the girls did a little crafting. From left: Sandy, Mindy in the middle with the yellow and Stephanie on the right! That's my girls---carrying on the Eads family crafting tradition!!!

Hearing that they all had so much fun together let's us know that we've made the right decision to take the place off the rental market!! 

A Few Things

1. Stephanie recently bought herself this cute Kate Spade purse. It is the cutest thing---navy with the camel and all those darling tassels. It's the popular backpack style purse. We are definitely Kate Spade people!

2.  I had no idea that bacon came in half pound packages. What used to be the one pound package is now 12oz. Bacon is so expensive these days. This pack was nearly $5.00!

3. One day, Butch came in and asked me where this toaster came from. It was on the floor in the back hallway. I said, "What?" and went over to check. That's when Steph started to laugh as we were trying to figure out what was going on. Then she admitted that she brought it so Butch could take it to recycle for her. She said it was "toast!" No problem, Butch goes to the recycle place every week!

4. Mary Queen of Angels Nursing Home is still on lockdown. Still, they take the residents on a trip every week. My friend, Mautj was on a gondola in Venice! She really gets in to it. She still doesn't have that mask mastered yet. Luckily, her place has not had any cases of Covid.  They must be doing something right there!

5. To our surprise, Mindy's picture turned up in the Tennessee Register. That's our Catholic newspaper. This is a candid shot of her and her Forensics partner, McColl during one of their performances. They regularly won 1st place. The Nashville Forensics league is putting together a Hall of Fame. Mindy and Stephanie both excelled at Forensics. In my opinion, that was the most important experience of their school years. They both are able to speak in front of a crowd with self-confidence and ease. Considering their careers, it's an important life skill. 

Monday Mystery

I told you about my Sago palm in this post. Just a few weeks ago, it looked like this:

 I was afraid it was dying and found so many reasons for what could have caused it. I already had two die.

They looked like this. Dead, deader than a doornail. (As soon as I typed that, I was curious about where that saying came from: The term dead as a doornail was used in the 1500s by William Shakespeare, and in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol in 1843. It is thought that the phrase dead as a doornail comes from the manner of securing doornails that were hammered into a door by clenching them.) You're welcome.

Well, the palm that I thought was dying, all of a sudden looks like this:

The yellow is gone! And then I noticed this:

The totally dead one has come back to life! I didn't do a single thing to either one. I was just sitting back and waiting for the other ones to die. 

It's a total mystery as to how one came back to life and the living one took a turn from death back towards life. Can that happen? Apparently it can!

Unfortunately, the other one that appeared to have died is still dead!

~Bed size--Queen but hoping to get one of those kings that have both sides adjustable.
~Cats--no, but we used to. Cleo was a victim of that pet food scandal years ago.
~Dog--never--except for one we found in 1979 and had for about a week until we found the owner.  Just enough time to know they were too much work!
~Eye color--greenish.
~Favorite color--pink to wear; robin's egg blue for decorating.
~Ghosts--nope.
~Height--Used to be 5'3"--think I've shrunk a little.
~Instrument you played--took piano lessons as an adult, but didn't get very far---one recital!
~Jealous type--I'd say those days are past me!
~Kids--3; 5 grands.
~Longest relationship--husband 49 years.
~Mood currently--calm.
~Night owl--not often.
~Overnight hospital stay--3 babies.
~Pet peeves--currently--people not wearing masks!
~Quiet time hobbies--reading; stitching; scrapbooking.
~Right or left handed--right.
~Siblings--6.
~Top 2 TV shows you watch--Hard to name only 2--any of the Bachelor franchise (guilty pleasure--pretty people acting badly) and Blue Bloods---love that family dinner.
~Ugly--certain dogs--none I know personally, but I've seen some ugly ones!
~Vacation Plans--all cancelled due to Covid. Already have some planned for 2021.
~Who will play--I'd have to offer a prize to get someone to do this!
~X-rays--lots with my feet--2 big toe surgeries; 1 broken ankle; 1 broken foot; 2 broken toes--all within 16 months. Only the toes were scheduled. The others were accidents!
~Yummy Foods--love my sweets; fresh tomatoes and any type of potatoes.
~Zoo--St. Louis is the best! And I've been to a lot of zoos!!
