The best book I've read in quite awhile is Stephen King's 11/22/63. It is unlike any other Stephen King book. There is little violence and gore. It's not scary either. It's about time travel. The main character goes back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. I especially love the "butterfly effect" and how thoroughly King covers it. I had never heard of that until this book. Jeanne read it and liked it too, but she felt like it was a little long and drawn out. Come on, every King book is at least 1000 pages. I didn't want it to end.
For our book club, we're reading Lost and Found and The White Palace. I've already finished Lost and Found about Jaycee Lee Dugard---the girl that was kidnapped and held for 18 years. Better than that is A Stolen Life written by Jaycee Lee. I'm almost finished with The White Palace. It's about the Russian aristocracy. It's okay, but certainly not a Philippa Gregory!
I just purchased on my Kindle, but haven't read yet, 50 Shades of Grey. It's the hottest book on the market. Every talk show and news station is covering it. I'm not sure for how long, it was selling at the rate of one book per second. I don't' know if that is still happening. It is being billed at "mom porn." I'm not "in" to reading porn, but I will always read any book that is garnering so much hoopla. I just have to know what the bid deal is. Just like the Twilight series and The Hunger Games series are MUST reads. I'll let you know what I think of 50 Shades. I haven't purchased the other two in the series. I have a feeling that I'll only need to read one of these to get the gist of the frenzy around this book.
Anybody reading anything good lately?
