Well, because of Covid, it was cancelled last year and postponed to the end of June this year. What??? Someone must have forgotten how HOT it is here!! Actually, it's friggin' hot in May! I was in St. Louis, so we gave Mitchell my spot. It was his first time---and Sandy and Greg's first time too. Turns out, the weather wasn't as bad as they anticipated. It was hot, but there was a little breeze that made it bearable. Plus there are always plenty of ice cold libations.
The day starts with bloody Mary's at our house.
Steeplechase is all about the fashion! Hats are a must! It's so much fun to "people watch" and enjoy everyone's outfits and chapeaus! Mindy and Stephanie have their fascinators made by Sunnybands--a small, local, family owned business. Mindy discovered them about 5 years ago. It really is all about the hats!
I think Sandy and Greg will be coming every year now.
Stephanie and Nicky--Steph said she missed my planning/organizing skills. You have to bring coolers for food and beverages. It's a long day--about 8 hours--so there's a lot of planning involved. Plus, just thinking about who carries what! You do not want to have to go back and forth to the car.
Justin and Mindy. I commended Justin for letting Mindy "make" him match with her. Then she said that he actually likes it! He even called from the Polo outlet store in Maine (he was visiting family the week before) to be sure of the color!
Since it's Nashville, there are always celebrities present. I don't really know this guy, but Mindy and Justin recognized him---Stephen Dorff. He was in the box next to ours.
Butch and Mitchell. Considering Mitchell wasn't with any of his friends or cousin, he had a really good time too. There's always some light betting to make it interesting.
Greg, Sandy and Mitchell. They were glad that Mitchell was there. Since he lives in Nashville now, they don't get to see him as often as they'd like. Another incentive to come next year--plus they were big winners!

Mindy brought some fun Jello "shots" in real shot containers. Greg was in charge of mint juleps. They didn't send me a picture of those. Everybody does something.
All the couples--I have the BEST son-in-laws! They are so good to our daughters---and that's all we ever wanted for them!!
The boys club.
And of course, there are the races. Our box is perfectly located on the finish line!

The whole thing is just a lot of fun--an annual event to look forward to. I'm glad Mitchell got to go in my place. Next year, I'll be back!
