Aftermath of the Flood

This house is directly across the street from us. It's quite a mess as you can see by these pictures.
What you see on the right is the garage---it has fallen and separated from the house.
If you look closely you can see where the driveway has fallen down due to the erosion of the sand. That's an SUV down there too.
On the other side, the garage has fallen down.
It's hard to tell, but the driveway and walk have fallen away from the front steps. That's the garage on the right.

This is the house next door---the driveway is caving, but the house is okay.
This is the beach view of the house. I had no idea that there was a retaining wall---normally it was covered with sand leading up to the house. The water broke through and all the sand has floated away. When we were here a couple of weeks ago, this is the house that was being "roofed." Obviously, the roof is the least of their problems now.
The water is still rushing out from under the house.
My brother questioned why the houses along the beach were not built on piers. Turns out they are. The piers are buried in the sand beneath the house. Now that all the sand has washed away, you can clearly see the piers.

This is such a shame---such a beautiful house. I have no idea how they can fix it. We'll just have to wait and see.
On a lighter note, we found these flip-flops on the path back from the beach. It was my idea to move them to the opposite side of the path. I wish I'd been able to see their reaction.

  1. Wow - that's a lot of damage from flood waters! I'm assuming y'all didn't have any damage? Hope you had a happy Mother's Day!

  2. Oh flood damage is always so depressing - the damage continues after the event as things mould or rot. Hope you didn't have any damage.
