Butch is fanatical about the girls spending the night with us before vacation. Stephanie and her family are not exactly known for their reliability in getting to our house on time. This way, if they spend the night, he can have a handle on when they get up. Still, we were 10 minutes late leaving the house on Saturday.
But before that, they arrived at 7:45 p.m. because we had planned to watch a movie. Jordan had called to see if they could have dinner at our house. I agreed to make "gourmet" grilled cheese (any combination of 2 types of cheese on grainy bread). About 5 minutes before they arrived, we lost power. I started to freak out a little because, on Friday, we broke all temperature records:
Yep, 109!! At 8 p.m. it was still 106. Within about 15 minutes, the house started to get hot. I was worried about leaving town and having everything thaw in the freezer---or worse, re-freezing without us knowing. Plus, there is Butch's aquarium to consider. No matter how small your "pets" are, they are still a hassle when you travel.
Luckily, the power came back about an hour later. I guess everyone was using too much electricity due to the heat. We ordered Chinese food and watched the movie. Alls well that ends well.
Stay tuned for my next vacation installment. It's already Monday night at 10 p.m. and I'm exhausted. Hopefully another post tomorrow....
