Last Saturday, Stephanie and Nicky had planned a pool party. That meant it was a good time for us to get out-of-town!
So, we decided to go to Lynnville, TN to the blackberry festival. It's about an hour south of Nashville. On the way down we stopped at Dolly Parton's new truck stop. A few weeks ago, on our way back from the beach, we stopped there so that Butch could be the first one to place a cache there since it wasn't even open yet. Now, he wanted to upgrade his cache by connecting it to a butterfly--her signature.
When we got there, it was so crowded! Butch said that she's already making so much money!! A great place for a tourist stop!
This greets you when you walk through the front door:
These are not guitars that she's played, but rather mass produced that designers decorated in her style. It's perfect--great idea for a chandelier!!
After our stop in Cornersville, TN--where Dolly's place is--it was on to Lynnville for the blackberry festival.
We found a parking spot about a block from Main Street. It was HOT! Really hot! There were different booths--from food to crafts and political candidates. We started at one end of the street and navigated down one side and up the other.
We stopped for a picture here:
We have been in several railroad museums and didn't feel like we needed to stop in. As we're making our way, we saw a sign that said "blackberry nachos"--$8.00. Butch didn't think that sounded good so we passed it by. There were a couple of ice cream trucks, but none with blackberry ice cream. In fact there were no blackberries in sight! Stephanie had asked us to pick up a jar of preserves for her. I would have like a jar too. There was one place selling jellies, but they only had blackberry/basil and blackberry/wine jelly. Neither sounded very good--plus not worth a $10 risk. That was it. A blackberry festival with no blackberries. I was looking for preserves and possibly blackberry pepper jelly. Nope, nada. d
By the time we went up and down the street, we were sweating and decided to call it a day. We stopped in the way home at Cracker Barrel for a late lunch. Lo and behold, there was a little container of blackberry preserves in the basket with our biscuits! I brought one home for Stephanie and Nicky!!
So, the blackberry festival was a "bust!" As we were telling Steph about it, I remembered that the flyer I saw about the festival had a bowl of blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream on it. Yeah, no--there was no cobbler!!
Still, it was fun just being out in the country on those pretty old country roads. We got home around 3 p.m. The party was still going on. Their friends were gone by 5:30.
Steph and Nicky cleaned up and asked if we wanted to sit on the patio with them. We did and the next thing we knew--it was 8:30!!! Time flies when you are having fun! It was a nice end to our day.
