Five Things Thursday

1.

2. In lieu of the picture above, I thought I better hurry up and wear this scarf. I got it for Christmas, but definitely seems too dark for spring.
Look close. See those earrings? I got them over 30 years ago. They are perfect with my scarf. Too bad you can't see my leopard print flats. Oh, and remember what I learned in Portugal? "Selfies" are not my best look!! Oh well, it is what it is!

3. Just in time for Easter!
How cute is this?

4. You could easily add a few of these:
I haven't made them yet, but the next time I make a charcuterie, I'm going to!

5. And soon, it will be time for this:
Elizabeth and Butch rockin' their shades. Summer is right around the corner!

Five Things Thursday

1. Dolly has partnered with Duncan Hines for two of her favorite cakes. There is also two types of frosting.
Is there anything Dolly can't do?

2.
My sentiments exactly!

3. This is so cute!
I wish I'd thought of it when my grands were little!

4. This puts it in perspective.

5. This is a great idea!
Now if I can only remember it!

Five Things Thursday

1. You know you're getting old when you can't figure out why your cookies are not browning.
Then you discover that you baked them on two cookie sheets.
Just so you know, it can be done. They just take twice as long!

2. You know you're getting old when you start getting emails for heavy-duty toenail clippers.
Otherwise known as horse hoof trimmers.

3.  You know you're getting old when you start getting emails about products for high blood pressure.
To be clear, I do not have high blood pressure!

4. You know you're getting old when you notice that your proboscis (I'm sure "Grammarly" will be impressed with this unique word) and ears seem to be getting bigger. My ears seem okay, but it's my nose that seems to be getting bigger. I've noticed that with old people, so I looked it up. Here's the answer:

As you age, gravity causes the cartilage in your ears and nose to break down and sag. This results in droopier, longer features.

So, it's not my imagination. All I can say is--sheesh! As if the lines and wrinkles aren't enough, you start to look like Pinnochio without even fibbing!

5. And my favorite of all--you know you're getting old when...
...your calendar is bigger than you are!! OMGosh! Here's the story:

I was at my friend, Nancy's for our "circle journal" group. We were trying to decide the next date we'd be getting together. I literally guffawed when Nancy pulled this thing out! Seriously? It's hilarious! Of course, I use my iPhone. Some of the other girls have the checkbook size calendars in their purse. But this...it's too much! To be fair, Nancy has always been my funniest friend!!

What things can you add to the list?

PS Notice my Princess Diana scarf? Love that thing!

Five Things Thursday

This post falls more into the category of: "I didn't know that!"

1. Takeaway cup lids

There is barely a more straight forward purpose for anything than for takeaway cup lids. Anyone knows they were invented to keep the content hot, and to make sure it doesn’t spill when you take your coffee to go. But there is a lesser known third purpose.

pastedGraphic.png

Each lid is designed to be used also as a coaster. They have special ridges up top that can hold the base of the cup in place perfectly. Pretty clever! I didn't know that!

2. Car seat headrests

The headrests in car seats are adjustable first and foremost to enable people of any height to sit comfortably, and get the correct support for their heads. But there is another hidden feature at work here.

pastedGraphic_1.png

You may or may not have noticed, the headrests are completely detachable and have two solid metal bars. So if you are ever trapped in a car and need to get out quickly, they can be used to smash out the windows. I didn't know that!

3. The raised dots on F & J

pastedGraphic_2.png

The F and J keys are known as the home keys, meaning they are where your index fingers should rest. The bumps make it much easier to find your way back to them, without having to look down. Just by your fingers feeling the bumps, you’ll know you’re on the right keys. I didn't know that!

4. Highway exit signs

If you look closely at a highway exit sign, you’ll see that the marker indicating the exit number is usually off to the right or the left.

pastedGraphic_3.png

This may seem like a random placement, but it serves a very distinct purpose that can help you if you’re driving through an unfamiliar area. If the marker is aligned to the right, that means your exit is on the right-hand side. The opposite is true if the marker is on the left side of the sign. I didn't know that!

5. Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body

2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs

1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion

1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure

1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

I definitely didn't know that!!

You're welcome!

Five Things Thursday

1. So, yesterday, this was delivered to our door.
Anybody that knows me--knows I LOVE cookies! Look closely at the label.
I emailed Amanda right away to thank her. I told her I felt guilty because I'm not really sick!!! But I do love cookies!! Then I lifted the lid! OMGosh!
I have never seen anything like this! I've never heard of this company. I couldn't wait to taste at least one of them. So, I chose---drum rollllll---which do you think I'd choose? I c*h*o*s*e---the sugar cookie!! It's pink and all. And it was on the end. Of course I'll be very methodical about how we eat them! I cut a tiny little wedge for Butch and another (maybe a teensy bit bigger) for me. It was Devine! I do not say that lightly. That frosting---I want to call those people and see if I can come and lick the bowl!! Amanda says I can freeze them. I'm going to need to do that. I swear, they are so huge! I really need to pace myself! Decadent for sure! Like I said on my birthday, "I am one lucky girl to have so many people who care about me!!" And now you know why I always say that Amanda is such a sweetheart!! She is the most thoughtful person--she gets it from her mom. I'm lucky to have them in my life!

PS to this story. I wrote this post yesterday afternoon. Then, at about 5:30, Connie brought over some vegetable soup with some cheese biscuits. She would have had no idea that I had already blogged about the cookies. See there, some mighty fine peeps!

Okay, enough of that. Moving on.

2. Right before Christmas, we were downtown. I noticed this sign. You wouldn't believe how much of a problem this is.
Years ago, before Butch retired from the parking business, we were downtown to meet some friends for dinner. A man approached Butch as we parked and tried to collect money. Butch said, "where's your uniform?" The guy was a little flustered. Butch continued to pepper him with questions---after all, it was one of Central Parking's lots so he knew that ALL attendants would be in uniform. He took me to the restaurant, and left to find the area manager to alert him of the situation. It was kind of exciting at the time. The imposter had no idea that he had approached a "big wig" with the exact company he was trying to rip off! But, the truth is, people try to cheat every way they can. I have several friends who have told us that they just pay rather than take a chance the guy might pose a problem. I guess that's why they get away with it. People don't want any type of confrontation. But he picked the wrong guy to deal with. Butch and his money do not part easily!! Plus, we always got (and still do) free parking! Still, it's a problem for the parking industry and we ALL pay for that!

3. One day, we stopped at Jimmy John's to pick up a sandwich.
As I was waiting, I noticed that the sandwich makers were literally throwing excess food, trash and debris right on the floor. The trash can was right there, but they were just pitching it towards the can without even looking--kind of a back-handed toss. I have a feeling that's a health code violation, not to mention the safety hazard. I'm pretty sure random garbage is slippery! How lazy can they be?

4. Yeah, we're those nerds that pay attention to stuff like this:
we like to see our numbers line up like this. It's so frustrating to discover that we missed something. The next milestone will be 60,000 and then 66,666.

5. Lastly, this is leftover from Christmas.
Apparently, my nephew, Johnny and his little Rosie, got matching Dysons for Christmas!! How cute is that? Yeah, you gotta' start 'em young!!

Five Things Thursday

1. I've saved this picture for a year to post. This is my favorite tree for 2020. My friend, Josephine posted it on Facebook.
Our girls went to school together, but I haven't seen her in years. I need to invite myself over this year to see this tree in person! So gorgeous! She really goes all out decorating. This year she posted a video of her entry. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to post videos here. I love all her wrapped gifts surrounding the room. That looks so cool! Check out all those stockings!

Speaking of friends, these girls are the first people we met when we moved to Nashville in 1985.
Leigh (on the left) and Mindy went to school together---they were newborns in 1985. Nancy is my friend who is always up for anything with me! Paige (on the right) lives in New York. This particular restaurant (Rolf's German Restaurant) is decorated for Christmas all year round. It's on my list! I tried to take the girls a couple years ago, but they never answered the phone. Hopefully, one of these days...we already have our plans set for this year. We---the girls and their husbands---leave on Dec. 30 for NYC and the "ball drop!" Another bucket list item. We were supposed to see Hugh Jackman in The Music Man right when the lockdown started. We've been rescheduled for January 1st and decided to keep that date and bring the guys with us! Love New York!

2. If you want a little project to do with your grandkids, this banner would be easy. It's made out of cardboard cutouts and a white marker. Any wide ribbon, or ball fringe (shown here) and clothespins. I could see having each grandchild decorating one house. That would be so cute.
Seriously, if I thought we could squeeze it in, I'd plan it for my girls. They always want craft projects. This one would be easy to replicate with the Circuit. Then, of course, I have every color of glitter glue, sequins and stamps to make it really come alive. Maybe next year!

3. OMGosh! This would have been a perfect "Friday Funny,"...

...but I just couldn't wait!

4. I love this idea!
I can't think of a nicer way to spend Christmas Eve. But, we do ALL of our gifts on Christmas Eve, so that wouldn't work for us.

5. This turkey charcuterie was posted on Facebook. So cute and pretty simple.

I'm posting the one that Mindy made for our early Thanksgiving. I think it's cuter for sure, but way more work. The one above can be assembled pretty quickly. I'm doing a Christmas party this year, so I might give it a try---the easier one that is!

Let me know if you have any fun ideas and I will be happy to post them for you!!

Five Things Thursday

1. I'm dying to get back to England. I would love to visit a house like this.

Or this one~just look at that thatched roof! So pretty.

2. Now this just seems disgusting to me.
I'd much rather use the crunchy bio-degradable stuff.

3. This really makes a lot of sense.

4. What are the odds that you would see three, colorful, fall trees perfectly aligned?

5. Everyone knows that I am not too in to dogs. But I think this is pretty clever!
This reminds me of a funny story. My sister, Janice lives in a log cabin. She has 2 big dogs. She also has a storage area above her front door that is accessed by a permanent wooden ladder. At the top, she has a dog bowl with the name "Gus" perched up there. "Gus" passed away several years ago. One day, a repairman was there. He looked up and saw the bowl and said, "Wow! Have you trained your dog to climb up there for his food?"

Seriously, he said that. After all, she does live in the country.

Five Things Thursday

Kicking off the Halloween season:

1. Sandy's new Halloween wreaths.
She found them at Sam's. If you enlarge the picture you can see all the detail and how full they are. They really are awesome! I'd be tempted to get a couple, but I don't think I'm going to decorate for Halloween this year with the remodel about ready to get underway. I already have too much work to do to add decorating for Halloween on top of that!

2. I thought this was a clever idea:
These pumpkins are made out of old drawers! Who thought of that?

3. Now this is another great idea!
A pumpkin platter charcuterie!

4. Clever ideas abound:

5. This looks like it's straight out of a zombie movie!

Have you come across any good Halloween ideas?
