Travel Tuesday

I can't believe that I actually have something to post for Travel Tuesday. Even if it isn't about me traveling! This post is about a little trip that Butch and Mitchell made. 

Mitchell just changed jobs. He had a couple weeks before starting the new job. So, he asked Butch to hike part of the Appalachian Trail with him. Now, when one of our grandchildren asks us to do something with them, we're doing it! At least as long as we're capable. 

Butch is very fit. He bikes and hikes every week. He walks the golf course several times a week too---lugging his golf club (rolling carts are not allowed). He's active and has a hard time sitting still for too long. Still, he did the research on the AT and felt like it might be a bit too much. Plus, it's not like it's around the corner from us. That trip would require some extensive planning.

He found an alternative near Monteagle, TN--just a couple hours away. Even that has some really difficult trails. To make sure he was up to the trip, Butch hiked the hardest trail near our home that he hikes all the time---nearly 5 miles with quite an elevation change. He did it twice in a row to make sure he had the stamina for it. He did. 

He planned the trip. They went last Monday. He said it was a beautiful place---as their pictures tell.

Butch said that they were sweating so much that they had to change their shirts. He said it was so much fun and so beautiful. He was concerned about keeping up with Mitchell. As it turned out, it was almost the other way around! Mitchell was so impressed with is grandpa. He asked him how long he's been hiking. He was surprised that it's only been since May!! 

The next day, they played golf together. And, they've already been skiing. 

I'm just so happy that they have some activities they can do together. Mitchell is our only grandson. I want him to have fond memories of his grandpa!! 

Butch has some other ideas for them---including a part of the Appalachian Trail! Now it's a matter of planning. 

So that's my Travel Tuesday story for this week!! 

We're leaving for the beach on Saturday. We're going to be doing some remodeling on our place. We're starting with the two bathrooms. I'm looking forward to shopping and all the picking out. We'll be meeting with the guy who's going to do the work. There's nothing I like more than a good remodeling project! I can see it now....
